Golf architect and author, Sam Cooper, has turned his golf course travels into a stunning series of journals

Architect, author, photographer and – above all – golf course enthusiast Sam Cooper has turned his travels around the coast of Great Britain into a stunning series of journals.

  • 18 premium Volumes, reviewing 225 courses, will be released on a quarterly basis, starting from Volume 1 on October 16
  • Each Volume of the highly collectable series includes essays on a dozen courses, taking the reader on a journey around the British coast, starting and finishing at Sam’s home on the Wirral
  • The reviews are complemented with bespoke course photography as well as unique illustration.

“From this evening, I must give the British people a very simple instruction: you must stay at home.”

In March 2020, these fateful words from the UK Prime Minister signalled the beginning of lockdown. They also set Sam Cooper off on the adventure of a lifetime.

“It’s a mixture of history, architecture, photography, and unadulterated geekery,” says Sam. “This is my passion project, and I hope you’ll join me for the full adventure.”

Together with his wife, Harriet, they made the decision to take their lives in a completely different direction. Specifically, they bought a camper van and set off with their two dogs on a golfing odyssey based on Sam’s obsessive quest to play every links course – and nothing but links courses – in Great Britain.

Sam’s blog and social media channels struck a chord with all true golfers who have dreamed of doing something similar. Now, Links From The Road will chart Sam’s travels for posterity in the form of a series of 18 beautifully crafted magazines that include detailed features and pictures of every one of the 225 links courses that he has encountered.

Published by magazine specialists 18Players, each volume takes a dozen (or so) courses and offers a deep dive.Every review includes Sam’s own photography while illustrations provide a further level of unique detail.

Sam also muses on golf course architecture, details his favourite holes on each leg of the trip and even offers recommendations on places to eat, drink and stay along the way.

Volume 1 of Links from the Road will be released on October 16, 2024, and costs £17.

Volumes 2 to 18 of this highly collectable series will be released on a quarterly basis.
